Hello, I am Sophie
Project manager. Parent. Expat residing in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Several years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually opened a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much larger.
The early weeks were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more challenging than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines settled in. We found places that worked for us, met other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Thistle Bloom Vista
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Netherlands.
